Day 3 started off with a pretty large head wind down to the Gabbro damn structure. The storms that had rolled through the night cleared out for us to paddle, however the winds still persisted. Despite the headwind and a rather sketchy lake crossing we made it to the Gabbro structure. Right as Zach and I arrived a helicopter took off from the Northern Lights Hunting & Fishing Lodge. Didn't have the opportunity to say hello or drop in, but it was pretty cool watching the 'copter take off and fly down the lake over the other canoes. Enjoyed checking out the damn structure and the kayakers amongst us (Henry & Brian) really geeked out over the massive standing waves below the damn.
The rest of our day was spent paddling some massive lakes/ parts of the Smallwood Reservoir. The maps don't show the scale of these bodies of water so you're just going to have to believe me when I say they are huge and difficult to navigate, esp in low water. Crossed a large glacial esker and continued paddling until arriving to the Lobstick structure. Set up camp further down from the structure on the top of an access road. Great campsite, tons of drift wood lining the shore.
